FALL 2020 ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 3

Here we are at the halfway point and we’ve yet to really show you any demo or project progress. That is because all these important details need to happen before we can ever break ground on a client project. Each project we take on is always broken down into 4 steps:

Space Planning and Rendering

Design, Sourcing and Purchasing

Build Out

Styling

Week 1 we gave you an idea of what the space looks like. Last week we broke down our space planning and rendering phase. And this week is all about design!!!

If you’re finding us for the first time from the One Room Challenge, welcome! We’re Danielle and Michael Gutelli and together we’re Clark + Aldine, a design-to-build collective in Plymouth, MI.

Clark + Aldine is named after the Chicago streets where we first met, and was born out of a love for purposeful design and everyday functionality. What we didn’t know then was that our passion and design influence would continue to grow, and we would soon leave our established careers to pursue Clark + Aldine full time. But like they say, when you know, you know! Learn more about us.

Concept Board + Client Review

What is a Concept Board?

A concept board is the best way to ensure we are capturing exactly what our clients are envisioning their future space to become. We use our client’s Pinterest board to help guide our team to what they are gravitating towards. From there, we narrow down images + introduce new images to best represent concepts of where we can take their space. This is going to set the groundwork for their dream space!

What happens in the client review?

We work with our clients to schedule a time to review their Concept Board, Space Plans and Renderings. This is where we will present the best concepts for their space based on their Pinterest input! We will give clients feedback on what we are thinking about for their space and ask any detailed questions we need to move the design process forward. We will also present to them our Space Plans and Renderings for their space with two options to work with. We leave this meeting excited about the project and hopefully sign off to move forward.

Estimated Timeframe to Complete: 2-6 weeks (allowing for scheduling conflicts, potential revisions and additions, and the scale of the project)

Mood Board

What is a Mood Board?

We will take client feedback from our Concept Review to pull together actual items that we recommend for their space! We will provide different mood board options to select from, but please keep in mind we are building these mood boards off their direct feedback, budget and overall vibe always in mind.

What will happen in the client review?

We review our recommendations and provide insight as to why we’ve selected items for their space. This is where they can provide feedback and ultimately land on a decision. We will make final changes to the Mood Board based on feedback and send a confirmation email for approval to move forward on purchasing.

Estimated Timeframe to Complete: 2-3 weeks (allowing for scheduling conflicts, potential revisions and additions, and the scale of the project)

Purchasing + Next Steps:

When we select items we do our best to pick items that will be shipped in an appropriate time frame. Due to COVID-19 we have experienced unexpected delays which can shift the overall project timeline. Once all products are delivered and inspected to ensure quality we can set up an actual start date for our build team to get in and start a project.

Estimated Timeframe to Complete: 2-16 weeks (all depending on the product considering anything custom made requires a significantly longer timeframe)

Wow talk about a lot of moving pieces before we ever break ground right! Now can you see why we haven’t even shown you the demo or build out of the project yet? Here’s our moodboard to get your brain going with what you’re about to see next week. Get ready because this space is about to blow your mind!

Till then make sure to follow along on our Instagram page to get a full behind the scenes of exactly what is happening in the space and how we work with real life clients to make their Pinterest dreams into their reality.
