SMALL MODERN BATHROOM DESIGN WITH SHOWER IDEAS

This year we are excited to announce we are participating as guests in the One Room Challenge by Calling It Home and House Beautiful. If you aren’t familiar with this challenge don’t worry, we’re going to fill you in. If you already know you can go ahead and just skip this paragraph! And we’ve created a mood board and had our dearest friend Erica create our first CAD drawings of our space! We’ve done a lot of remodeling in our home already but this will be a first full room renovation and we cannot wait to jump into this project together!

Here’s how it works:

As a part of this challenge we’ve picked one room to make over. Over the next 6 weeks you get to see our DIY bathroom remodel happen step by step through our blog posts full of photos, videos and of course a ton of coverage on our social media channels. Then every Wednesday we post our progress here for you to check out, leading to the final reveal of our modern master bathroom.

On Thursdays we post our progress over on Calling It Home’s One Room Challenge page and you can hop over there to check out makeovers from a ton of other talented bloggers, too! We love how this brings together all guest bloggers to showcase their home/room designs and makeover progress along the way. We participated in this exact challenge last year, so to get an idea of how it works if you haven’t already take a look at our Master Bedroom Makeover! You can also check out a few more of our DIY makeovers here too: mudroomworkspace, and board and batten.

Let’s chat it up about what we are planning to do. Our master bedroom renovation will be the first full renovation project thus far in our home. We’re taking it down to studs! Goodbye walls, goodbye floor, goodbye ugly hexagonal shower and hexagonal window, goodbye everything we can’t stand about this space. And hello to everything we’ll be adding to it.

How to create a modern bathroom with a shower in a small space!

  • Add new flooring (for us that means heated flooring)
  • Add recessed lighting to give more overall light in the space
  • Get rid of window to allow for more functionality
  • Change shower footprint from hexagonal to square
  • Put up wall sconces for additional lighting
  • Paint
  • New vanity, hardware and two undercount sinks
  • Mirrors
  • Artwork
We’re so excited to share this journey with you all and can not wait to show you step by step what we’re doing and how we’re doing it. Let the fun begin!
Much love-
Danielle & Michael

These are great ideas! For some reason an ugly bathroom is the biggest deal-breaker when I’m house-hunting.

Isn’t that the truth. This one was pretty ugly when we first bought the house. I’ll post the befores of that in the final final reveal.

This is such a neat concept and I’m finding this in perfect timing! We are slowly remodeling our home to make it more of our own and I’m hoping to tackle the bathrooms next!

How exciting!! Your bedroom turned out beautiful so I’m excited for you to have a bathroom that’s just as amazing! I love the difference that a pop of color & mirrors can make in a bathroom. Have fun!!

We can’t wait to see how that navy blue is going to shine. The oval mirrors we’ve got coming our way are pretty rad too. No just to decide if we keep them natural wood or paint them.

Love your ideas! My brother giving his bathroom and facelift, going to share with him!

oh … love your plan and looking forward to seeing how to solve that sloped ceiling + window situation with mirror and sconces + double sink!

    1. Danielle Gutelli Avatar

Thank you! We are totally geeked to make a real change. The window was hard to say good bye to for the natural light. But it really wasn’t allowing the bathroom to truly function correctly. Can’t wait to show you more progress next week!

I’m so excited to see how this turns out! A square shower is going to look so much more modern than the hexagon one that’s in there now. Looking forward to following your progress over the next few weeks!

    1. Danielle Gutelli Avatar

Right!!! That hexagonal shower was the worst idea every. We cannot wait to see the new look.
